Slovak Retail Sales Drop the Most in 7 Years
Slovakia's retail trade dropped 3.3 percent from a year earlier in October 2019, following a 2.7 percent decline in the previous month. It was the sharpest fall in trade since December 2012, mainly due to sales of other goods in specialized stores (-8.2 percent vs -4.7 percent in September), trade in non-specialized stores (-2.7 percent vs -3.0 percent) and trade not in stores, stalls or markets (-3.8 percent vs -8.1 percent). There were also decreases in sales of ICT in specialized stores (-5.5 percent vs -9.4 percent), cultural and recreation goods (-4.3 percent vs -3.0 percent) and other household equipment (-0.2 percent vs 6.4 percent). Meanwhile, food,beverages and tobacco sales jumped 17.6 percent (vs 18.7 percent in September) and fuel trade rose 5.1 percent (vs 4.3 percent in September).

Slovak Retail Sales Fall for 5th Month
Retail sales in Slovakia declined 2.7 percent from a year earlier in September 2019, following a 2.9 percent fall in the previous month. It was the fifth consecutive month of downturn in retail trade, though at a softer pace. Sales fell in non-specialized stores (-3 percent vs -5.3 percent in August); ICT goods (-9.4 percent vs -3 percent); cultural and recreation goods (-3 percent vs 4.1 percent); other goods (-4.7 percent vs -1 percent) and also not in stores, stalls or markets (-8.1 percent vs -5.4 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales decreased 0.4 percent, after dropping 0.3 percent in the previous month.

Slovak Retail Trade Falls the Most since 2012
Retail sales in Slovakia fell 2.9 percent from a year earlier in August of 2019, following a 0.9 percent decrease the previous month. It was the biggest drop in retail trade since December 2012, as sales declined in non-specialized stores (-5.3 percent vs -2.3 percent in April); other goods in specialized stores (-1.0 percent vs 1.8 percent); stalls and markets (-3.0 percent vs 7.1 percent) and those not in stores, stalls or markets (-5.4 percent vs -0.1 percent). In addition, sales slowed for food, beverages and tobacco (6.0 percent vs 6.2 percent) and automotive fuel (2.2 percent vs 2.7 percent). Meanwhile, other household equipment sales advanced faster (6.8 percent vs 4.7 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales decreased 0.3 percent, after a 0.2 percent drop in July.

Retail sales in Slovakia decreased 0.9 percent from a year earlier in July 2019, following a 0.4 percent drop in the previous month. Main declines were seen in sales of ICT goods (-17.5 percent vs -9.3 percent in June); cultural & recreation goods (-2.9 percent vs 34.7 percent) and non-specialized stores (-2.3 percent vs -3.3 percent). In addition, sales rose less for food, beverages & tobacco (6.2 percent vs 13.9 percent); automotive fuel (2.7 percent vs 3.8 percent); other household equipment (4.7 percent vs 6.0 percent) and via stalls & markets (7.1 percent vs 10.4 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade went down 0.2 percent, after increasing 1.6 percent in the prior month.

Slovak Retail Sales Fall Less in June
Retail sales in Slovakia dropped 0.4 percent from a year earlier in June 2019, following a 2.7 percent decline in the previous month. Sales fell at a softer pace in non-specialized stores (-3.3 percent vs -5.1 percent in May) while rebounded for other household equipment (6 percent vs -2.6 percent) and other goods (0.1 percent vs -4.1 percent). In addition, sales grew faster for automotive fuel (3.8 percent vs 1.3 percent) and cultural & recreation goods (34.7 percent vs 22.2 percent). Meanwhile, softer rises were seen for food, beverages & tobacco (13.9 percent vs 14.6 percent) and via stalls & markets (10.4 percent vs 16.3 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade rose 1.6 percent, after a 1.9 percent decrease in the previous month.

Retail sales in Slovakia fell 2.7 percent from a year earlier in May of 2019, following a 1.8 percent gain the previous month. It was the biggest drop in retail trade since December 2012, as sales declined in non-specialized stores (-5.1 percent vs 1.8 percent in April); for ICT in specialized stores (-8.6 percent vs 5.7 percent); for other household equipment (-2.6 percent vs -4.0 percent) and other goods in specialized stores (-4.1 percent vs -4.7 percent). In addition, sales slowed for food, beverages and tobacco (14.6 percent vs 17.8 percent); automotive fuel (1.3 percent vs 12.9 percent) and for those not in stores, stalls or markets (0.3 percent vs 6.0 percent). Meanwhile, sales advanced faster for cultural & recreation goods (22.2 percent vs 17.6 percent) and for those in stalls and markets (16.3 percent vs 13.1 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales decreased 1.9 percent, after a 0.4 percent rise in April.
